Picking your first wig, whether it's for medical reasons, thinning hair, Alopecia Areata, convenience, travel or just for that special date night when you want to knock his socks off, can be a scary thing.
Now I can go on and on about how you want to knock his socks off with your sexy look, but that will come in another blog. Today we will be talking about something that can be an emotional event and even a traumatic event, hair loss.
Trust me, we women love our hair, we need our hair, and if we want to cry about our hair loss, we will and we can! The good part is that after all that crying and frustration, there is a solution; there is hope for hair loss. And hope starts with a four letter word, WIGS.
Let's dive into the wonderful world of wigs! Come on, you can do it! I am going to be here with you, the water is warm and you won't believe how much happiness and empowerment is waiting for you!
You will hear all kinds of terms such as wigs for Alopecia, wigs for cancer patients, chemotherapy wigs; don't let these terms fool you, there are wigs out there that are beautiful realistic wigs.
They are no longer Grandma's wig that she used to wear when you were 4 years old. They aren't the shameful, hot and out of style wigs that you might remember. There are truly realistic modern looking wigs!
The next fear you might have is that everyone will know it's a WIG! Everyone will be staring at me, they will be watching me and be extra critical of me.
The truth is that everyone has their own issues and they are mainly focused on themselves; they don't have the time, or desire, to worry about you. And truthfully, YOU are the most critical of yourself.
But let's let that go for a moment. Let's try something new. If you are fighting hair loss you might already have some emotional issues associated with your looks.
Let's put a spin on this; let's think of it as a way to end those negative emotional thoughts that you are having about yourself. Tell yourself "no more negative thoughts; let's try a wig and be open to it."
Be open to something new and I promise it won't be so bad; you will actually most likely have a lot of fun with it. Once you find your wigs (and I do mean wigs, as most women I see have 2-20 wigs, just as they have that many shoes) all of this frustration and worry will seem all for not.
First decide what length of hair you would like, short wigs, medium wigs, or long wigs. Our styles are listed in these categories on our website.
Do you want your wig to look similar to your own hair or do you want something completely different? The good news is that you have a choice, so many choices and the freedom to be whoever you want to be with Godiva's Secret Wigs!
The second item to consider is what type of wig you prefer. There are regular wig caps which are "machine teased." These have more volume at the crown area as the hair is machine sewn into the cap and you will not physically see the cap through all the hair.
Then there's a monofilament (mono) wig. The monofilament wig has a cap that is made in such a way that gives the appearance of a natural scalp at the crown.
Monofilament caps are made of a thin mesh-like material. Hairs are individually hand tied at the crown, which gives an extremely realistic look. Monofilament wigs lay flatter than standard wig caps because there is no machine teasing at the crown.
Godiva's Secret Wigs come in Average size, Petite Wigs, and Ultra Petite Wigs. The Average size wigs are 21 1/2 to 22 1/2 inches in circumference. Our Petite and Ultra Petite Wigs are 18-21 inches in circumference.
To measure the circumference of your head, simply take a tape measure and place it at the middle of your forehead at the hairline. Then run the tape around the head, behind one ear, around the nape of the neck, behind the other ear, and then back to the front at the hairline.
Next is putting on your wig. It's very important that you put on your wig correctly. If you don't have it on correctly you could end up with a very tasseled looking "wig" on your head. That's not the look we are going for so we have created a step by step scenario and video of how to put a wig on.
You have some decisions to make here, but take it step by step. We have plenty of videos on our Godiva's Secret Wigs Channel that have been made with you in mind.
We know it can be challenging purchasing a wig on the internet and we hope you are able to use these videos to make your wig choices. At Godiva's Secret Wigs we try to get up close and personal with our wigs and show you our wigs on real people and show you the colors and the styles up close.
