When it comes to creating a custom top piece wig, you will find that you have full control of how much or how little of the wig you decide to remove. Remember, you can also remove more later.

If you aren’t sure where to start, begin with cutting out a smaller section of the wig and work upwards from there. Regardless of how you decide to create your custom wig, you will look absolutely breathtaking in the final result!

As you view the video, you will see just how easy and simple it is to learn how to style a wig into the custom top piece you desire. Whether you are using this wig for hair loss or simply want a new look, you will not find a better selection of realistic and modern wigs than you will find at Godiva’s Secret Wigs.

The Steps You Need To Follow To Create Your Custom Top Piece

The easiest way to make sure you master customizing your wig into the perfect top piece is to follow along step by step with Danielle’s video. However, we are more than happy to provide you with a brief outline of the steps she is taking below:

  1. Place the wig inside out on a styrofoam head or your knee. Make sure the tag is facing you.
  2. Begin cutting through the elastic and wefts where you would like. Make sure that you tug on the piece you are cutting to determine where it is attached.
  3. Continue cutting all the way across the wig. Make sure you cut in the middle of each weft to keep the wig symmetrical.
  4. Be mindful that you are not cutting the hair on the wig.
  5. Once you are done cutting, sew clips into the section you just cut. You can sew as few as three (left, middle, right) or more if you feel additional clips are necessary.

The process of customizing your modern wig is truly that simple. The only way you can make a mistake during this process is by rushing each motion. It is okay for the process to take a little longer if you are a first time wig wearer.

By taking your time now, you will create a beautiful custom wig that you will love for years to come. You will also give yourself the confidence you need to complete this process with every new wig that joins your collection.

Where To Cut Your Wig To Create A Custom Fit

Aside from understanding how to create a custom top piece wig, you need to know where to cut. You can make a small cut and remove a small section of hair or you can remove most of the wig and just keep the crown. It truly depends on what the desired end result is for you. Remember, you do not need to be scared of this process!

When To Make A Small Cut

You should make a small cut and remove only one or two rows of weft from the bottom of your modern wig when you want to create a better fit.

Whether you have natural, thick, and luscious hair that does not fit in the wig or you have a head that is larger than the wig itself, this is the time to make a small cut. This small adjustment will go a far way with giving you confidence while wearing the best wig on the market.

When To Make A Medium Cut

The best time to make a medium cut on your realistic wig is when you want to create a shorter look.

This technique works well for women with thinner hair on the top of their head that want to keep a similar style as they become seasoned wig wearers. Additionally, a medium cut can be used to create the perfect top piece from a long wig that doesn’t quite fit your taste.

When To Make A Large Cut

When you desire a top piece that only features the crown of the head, you need to make a large cut. This is the perfect piece for those with fine hair and want to simply add in a small amount of volume on their head.

If you have found that you have made a mistake while cutting, do not fret! You can simply sew your wig back together.

How To Sew In Clips On Your Custom Modern Wig

You can put clips in anywhere you want on your new modern wig piece. However, typically you put two on the front of the piece and two to three on the back. Follow these simple steps while sewing in your clips:

  1. Use clips and thread that are similar in color to your wig.
  2. Thread the needle and create a knot.
  3. Place your clip where the teeth are facing the middle (inside) of your wig. Also, make sure the rubber part is down on the wig.
  4. Secure the clip by using the needle and thread to go through the holes in the clip.
  5. Make sure you tie a knot on each hole to prevent any issues in the future.
